Valentine's Day ~ Cooking In or Eating Out?
The Valentine’s Day conundrum ~ Do you take her out to a wonderfully amazing restaurant for the evening, or cook up some spicy delights right at home?
There are pros and cons to each. Getting a reservation may be difficult (better get a move on) and the house certainly has its distractions. But, creating a wonderful experience in the comfort of your own home, and avoiding the crowds, does not have to be an overwhelming task.
Tips for creating that romantic Be-My-Valentine Mood at home:
Mood is Everything
Set the mood by turning off the phone and television. Light some candles, purchase a creative center piece for the table, dim the lights, light the fire, have some jazz playing softly in the background ...
Or get creative and set up a Japanese dining experience at home ~ toss some fluffy pillows on the floor around a low-set table.
As the bulk of your Valentine celebration will be spent around the table, this is a very important component! Think hard ~ what does she like? What are some of her favorite spices, main dishes ... ?
Also, don’t forget to consider the “sexiness” of what you will be serving (it’s hard to feel sexy with BBQ rib sauce all over your face and fingers). Believe it or not, “Asparagus stirs up lust in men and women” according to the 17th Century English Herbalist Nicholas Culpepper. In 19th-century France, bridegrooms were served three courses of the sexy spears at their prenuptial dinner. Do some research! :)
Leave the mess in the kitchen, serve at the table. Layout the table before she arrives, to extract that “wow” factor.
Women Do Love that You Put Work Into It
Believe it. Women will see all that you have done and immediately equate that to the fact that you were thinking of them and planning for days.
Regardless of what you decide to do in the end, make the entire evening about just the two of you. No peeking at the text messages or latest scores, concentrate on each other and enjoy your evening with just the two of you.
How are you planning to spend this Valentine’s day?
