The Unsubstantiated Fear of 360 Cookware

Our team recently discussed a subject that is surprisingly popular. We compared notes on how often we come across people who seem to be intimidated by our stainless steel products. At first it seemed a little absurd but the more we talked, it became obvious that this was a reoccurring issue. Our customer service team receives frequent questions from customers concerning basic cooking procedures like:

  • How do I make broth?
  • What’s the best way to prepare taco meat?
  • How should I cook collard greens?

Further discussion with the customer reveals that these are all dishes that they have prepared before but for some reason, they feel their new stainless steel cookware requires them to do things differently.


Fear of Cooking

We immediately knew this was a subject we needed to address. We began to brainstorm about the possible scenarios that would cause otherwise confident cooks to second-guess their cooking techniques. In our research we found that the fear of cooking is a condition called Mageirocophobia. (Who knew it was a “thing?”) It’s described as being afraid of possible outcomes of the cooking process. For example, one might be afraid of causing illness, serving inedible food, presentation concerns, or even recipes. While we believe there’s relevance to this phobia, we don’t believe that’s what’s happening with 360 Cookware customers.

Fear of 360 Cookware

We broke it down to four different types of fear we thought people might be facing when considering 360 Cookware: failure, change, loss and success.

The fear of failure seems to be the most likely culprit considering how unsure folks are when they’re asking questions about cooking their favorite meals. When we take this fear into consideration, we ask, “What’s the worst that could happen?” If your meal is ruined to the point where it’s inedible, you could end up hungry until you develop a plan B and the food would be wasted. There could be some level of inconvenience but it’s not anything that couldn’t be successfully addressed.

The cliché “change is inevitable” is true in many circumstances, which of course is why it’s a cliché. However, the only necessary change with 360 Cookware is a heat adjustment.
